Retired cop, son shot dead in Leyte

UNIDENTIFIED gunmen shot and killed a retired police officer and his son in Palo, Leyte Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Authorities identified the victims as Pio Molabola Peñaflor and his 35-year-old son Alphy Chan Peñaflor, both residents of Jaro, Leyte.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims were on board a public bus and alighted in front of Palo Metropolitan Cathedral along San Salvador Street in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Palo around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.

While they were walking toward the municipal library junction, the gunmen, who were on board a black Ford Everest, suddenly fired at them using an undetermined caliber of firearms.

The father immediately fell to the ground after the shooting. His son attempted to run but was gunned down a few meters away, according to police.

The Palo Municipal Police is conducting a follow-up for the identification and arrest of the gunmen.

Authorities have yet to determine a motive in the shooting. (SunStar Philippines)
