Sungduan: SI Igorots commitment

THE Soroptimist International (SI) of Igorots of Northern Luzon Central District based in Baguio City takes a bigger stride in pursuing more projects for the women and children facing difficult times during the pandemic.

Upholding SI's theme "Investing in Dreams, SI Igorots President Lumina L. Peil said in this challenging time her group stands firmly for the women and children who have been worse affected by the current covid-19 crisis.

Peil, who just took her oath as the new head of the all-women organization during the installation of officers and induction of new club members ceremony on August 22, said now is the time to lead with more optimism for the community in need underscoring the importance of working as one for the promotion of the economic welfare of women and the protection of the rights of women and children.

"We call everyone in the women sector to help us come up with the best solutions to achieve our theme "Investing in Dreams" and fulfilling the Governor's thrust and advocacy for this biennium, "Empowering Women thru' Sustainable Livelihoods," Peil stressed.

In this new normal wherein access to the basic women's rights and needs are being challenged Peil vowed for creative and actionable solutions to educate, mentor, and help women and children.

"This is our life-long commitment and the reason for Soroptimist International's very existence to ensure a better future for women. To the end, the dreams of women will be achieved," she added.

Meanwhile, in her online message during the virtual ceremony, SI the Americas Philippines Region Governor Gabrielle "Billie" Venus Calizo-Quimpo who served as guest speaker during the event shared her thoughts about real leadership amid the global pandemic. She mentioned that being a leader during this tough time one needs to be proactive, innovative, be a shining example, and must have the passion to lead.

IP Governor Lydia Co delivered an inspirational message while Region Membership Chair (Biennium 2020-2022) Marivic Paras served as the Inducting Officer.

Joining Peil as officer of the club for year 2020-2022 are President-Elect Imelda Madrid, Vice President Lolita Mananes, Secretary Lucrecia Telio, Treasurer Lilibeth Cruz, and Auditor Marlene Baluyut.

The Pillars Chair are Jocelyn Kapuno for program, Lucia Ruis for membership, Atty. Gloria Rose Dulnuan for Fundraising, and Karen Minong for Public Awareness.

The new members of the group who took their oath of membership are Minong, Dulnuan, and Telio.

Some of the projects of SI Igorots include livelihood projects that will benefit the women, adoption of barangays, and donations of PPEs under the anti-Covid drive, and the plan to adopt a day care center, high school, and PNP women's desk.

Help will surely be provided for the women and children in need amid the pandemic with the support of SI Igorots.
