THE Pasil Fish Market is finally open to the public after four months spent by the Cebu City government renovating the old edifice.

The City facilitated the replacement of the market’s old roof, made improvements on all of its fish stalls and cleaned some of the surrounding areas.

The City spent around P4.9 million to improve the Pasil Fish Market.

Irvin Caballes, Cebu City Market administrator, said after reopening the fish market, he has ordered the retailers at their “bagsakan” center at the South Road Properties to resume business at the market.

But even though they have resumed operations at the Pasil Fish Market, they will still allow their wholesalers to use the old “bagsakan” at the SRP since its current size can accommodate a lot of them.

Cebu City Councilor Renato Osmeña, who chairs the committee on markets, urged stall owners of the Pasil Fish Market to take care of their new stalls and keep the market clean and presentable for themselves and their customers.

In May, the Pasil Fish Market was closed to the public after the outbreak of Covid-19 in barangays Suba and Pasil.

It was supposed to reopen on Aug. 15, but road and drainage projects being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways within the market area forced market officials to reschedule the reopening to Aug. 28.

About 200 vendors are expected to go back to selling at the Pasil Fish Market.

Ambulant vendors are assigned to occupy Phase 1 of the market. The retailers are in Phase 2, the renovated portion of the market building. / PAC
