54-year-old ROF is the new Covid-19 death in Oro

A 54-YEAR-OLD male returning overseas Filipino worker (ROF) from France and a resident of Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro died on Saturday, August 29, City Mayor Oscar Moreno reported.

The man is the 272nd Covid-19 case and the 10th Covid-19 death in the city.

According to Moreno, the man died due to difficulty in breathing. The family was advised to cremate the remains of the man.

"I regret to report nga dunay atong namatay ganina sa CIU (city isolation unit) and I very much regret nga nahitabo to. The family has already been advised and our deepest condolences sa pamilya," Moreno said.

"It would just have been a matter of time nga mag-recover siya kay wala man siya symptoms," he added.

The 54-year-old man, who worked as a seafarer, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on July 17 where he was swabbed and the result was negative.

The man stayed in a hotel for one week and on July 24, he went through his first rapid diagnostic test, which came out negative as well.

On the same day, the man was transferred to the Mariners Home Dormitory in Malate, Manila for training. He went through his second rapid diagnostic test on July 28 and the result was also negative.

He was, again, transferred to another dormitory and stayed from July 28 to August 20.

The 54-year-old man arrived in Cagayan de Oro via plane on August 21. He was swabbed on August 26 and the result came out positive on August 27.

He is asymptomatic and has no known comorbidity. He was supposed to be transferred to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility, however, he died while he was still in the city isolation unit.
