Limlingan: Inside the barangay hall

A VIDEO clip, especially if it contains some private moments of two persons while perhaps in an amorous relationship and watched by other local officials and many residents of a barangay, has been proven deadly for one's political career and mandate for public service.

Further, such an act had blemished not only his own office but has also somehow affected the "honorable" image of punong barangays or better known as barangay captains. The "actor" punong barangay of a village in Cavite province has his video and that of his "actress" barangay treasurer in social media sites and the Youtube.

The "video scandal" was shot inside the barangay hall where a supposed Zoom meeting among barangay officials and their constituents to take place. Zoom, a computer application, is now among the trends in video teleconferencing. Those in a meeting see and talk to each other on a video interface using a computer or a mobile phone.

In the video that went viral now, the woman treasurer, who was found out to be the "kumare" of kapitan, was seen very daring and seemed to be submissive to the urge of the barangay head. The kapitan, meanwhile, in his senior age, was doing his lewd acts as if no one was watching. Unknowingly, they are being watched.

Interestingly, none of those in the meeting dared to call up the punong barangay or the treasurer to warn them or tell them to stop. It seems that those who have watched it had enjoyed watching or that they really wanted the village chief to be humiliated. Pity them as they unintentionally and unknowingly "broadcasted" their acts.

By the way, the punong barangay, during the video, has attempted to shut down the camera of the computer. Unfortunately for him, the built-in camera of the laptop he was using remained in its "on" status, thus, capturing their daring acts inside the barangay hall.

Kapitan was a non-"techie." He was not too familiar with video capturing or the functions of his computer, though he can be a great porn actor in his genre. I wonder how his relationship is now with his kumpadre.

In support of the troubled barangay official, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has called on the public for some compassion. He emphasized that, although he is not tolerating such an act of the said barangay official and his treasurer, the two have suffered enough with the humiliation.

Such a video is very humiliating. Acts that are done in the privacy of bedrooms should not be made public. In such cases, barangay officials are expected to be men of honor and respect. As chosen leaders of the people in their respective jurisdictions, they should not do acts that may tarnish not only their personal selves but the offices they represent.

Nobody is perfect and anybody can commit sins. However, people can avoid doing some things that are not only illegal and immoral but also shameful. We are no saint but we can somehow do away with doing something fishy especially inside a public building involving public officials or employees.

As an update, the punong barangay and his barangay treasurer have resigned from their posts. Their humiliation however would remain and linger. In addition, they are now subject to an investigation and they might be facing charges for their acts.
