Eastern Visayas records 102 new Covid-19 recoveries

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas reported on Monday, August 31, an additional 102 recoveries from coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the total number of recoveries in the region to 1,738 or 57.87 percent.

As of 7 p.m. Monday, the region also recorded 51 new cases, bringing the total Covid-19 cases to 3,003 and active cases to 1,241 or 41.32 percent.

The 51 new Covid-19 cases were recorded out of 405 laboratory samples tested in the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) and Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL).

EVRCTC released a total of 273 laboratory results, of which 223 are negative and 50 are positive.

The positive results, which include 44 new cases and six re-swabs, are in Dagami, Leyte (2); Kananga, Leyte (1); Palo, Leyte (1); Tolosa, Leyte (1); Calbayog City, Samar (1); Catbalogan City, Samar (26); Paranas, Samar (1); Villareal, Samar (10); and Llorente, Eastern Samar (1).

Also, the DWHVL released a total of 132 laboratory results, of which 116 are negative and 16 are positive for Covid-19.

The positive results include seven new cases and nine re-swabs.

The seven new cases are in Albuera, Leyte (1); Tacloban City (2); Villaba, Leyte (1); Tanauan, Leyte (1); Matag-ob, Leyte (1); and Pastrana, Leyte (1).

Meanwhile, Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez reiterated that there is no total lockdown in the city amid the surging cases of Covid-19 in the regional center.

"There is no cause for alarm but there is a cause for concern... I just want people to be very concerned with what is happening and not just hear things but start listening,” Romualdez said in a press briefing on Monday.

However, at least 22 barangays in the city are placed under 24-hour localized lockdown for contact tracing purposes.

Three barangay officials in the city were also infected with the virus, according to the City Government.

As of Monday morning, Tacloban recorded 420 Covid-19 cases, with 316 active cases. (SunStar Philippines)
