Villaflor: The price of football

THERE’S a survey on social media right now asking football viewers how much they would want to pay to watch their favorite football shows, leagues and all, on TV.

The digital events production agency behind the query kicked off the survey by announcing that “something huge is making a comeback on your TV screens!”

Of course, that’s news good enough to tickle the Filipino football enthusiast pink.

Besides, the football community here has been clamoring for better, if not free, access to live matches from the big leagues, including the Premier League, La Liga and Champions League.

Just like the good old days.

In the late ‘90s and early 2000s, the Filipino football viewer was a spoiled one as he had the whole caboodle of leagues at his fingertips. That is if he had cable.

And this brings us back to the question: How much are you willing to pay to watch a bundle of your favorite football programs on TV?

I’m not quite sure if the survey conducted by InDigital.PH referred to cable or another transmission system on TV, but the question somehow hit hard.

If I can access any live stream, replay or highlight of football matches of my choice, why would I shell out my hard-earned money for a fixed bundle of football content?

On the other hand, unreliable internet connection can be frustrating for football viewing, so bundled TV programs might provide more viewing stability and consistency.

I was about to finish the survey posted on the agency’s Facebook page when I decided that I needed more time to think.

Ah, the life and death choices every football enthusiast must make.
