A MAYOR in one of the towns in Zamboanga del Sur escaped unscathed, while his companion was killed and another was injured in an ambush late Wednesday, September 3, the police reported.
Unscathed during the ambush was Mayor James Yecyec of the municipality of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur, said Police Captain Junar Yap, the town's police chief.
Yap said that Yecyec was aboard a vehicle, together with Silverio Ediang Jr. and Margarito Yangyang, on the way home coming from a birthday celebration when gunmen ambushed them in Purok Paradise, Barangay Poblacion, Pitogo.
Yecyec was unscathed, while Ediang was killed and Yangyang was injured in the incident.
The gunmen fled under the cover of darkness.
Yap said investigation continues and all possible motives are being looked into since Yecyec has no known enemies. (SunStar Zamboanga)
