Drunk man hacks cop in Leyte

A POLICE officer was brought to a hospital after he was hacked by a drunk man in Alangalang, Leyte Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Master Sergeant Jon Alvin Claro of Alangalang Municipal Police Station was responding to an alleged commotion at Barangay Dapdap at 2:45 a.m. Thursday when the suspect, Rodulfo Maurillo, hacked him using a long-bladed weapon locally known as “sundang.”

Other responding police officers managed to shoot the suspect, however he was able to escape towards the grassy portion of the barangay.

A hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of the suspect, police said in a report.

He was subsequently brought to the Leyte Provincial Hospital in Palo town for medical attention after he sustained gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body.

Police are investigating the incident.(SunStar Philippines)
