Goho: On Christ and Christianity

Goho: On Christ and Christianity

FOR the past few years, I've been getting a lot of remarks from people on how "Christian"or "religious" I have become. I can only speculate that those were subjective assessments without clear basis or perhaps just hasty assumptions to start small talks.

I've had a shaky relationship with Christianity throughout my life as I would label myself as allergic to all sorts of institutionalized and man-made religions. I have always believed that these so-called church buildings and religious social institutions we see around us have always been about collective ego, money, politics, cultic brainwashing, or even excuses to just socialize and expand one's network. It seems to primarily focus on the form rather than the substance, I can smell through the hypocrisy all over it.

More things added to my cynicism when I would hear stories of corrupt priests who have affairs and with children, egotistical pastors that seem to have a price whenever money is on the table particularly when you see religious figures such as Apollo Quiboloy make such audacious claims and yet wear watches worth millions and ride private jets. How could these so-called representatives of God be so corrupt and be such sellouts?

As a result, for the longest time I had been indifferent towards the notions on the existence of a supernatural deity and its implications on our lives which is also why I had led such a carefree and hedonistic lifestyle with a very subjective worldview primarily focused on ego feeding, self-indulgence and self-preservation, which I see quite a lot today when the driving force is money, status, power and privilege.

I was once drawn to worldly philosophies of empty deceit and empty clichés that may have value in their own right, but fall short. Somehow. I did not have a firm moral framework and a solid truth perspective.

Religion as I found out is always "performance based" to gain acceptance. I have realized all religions are dependent on one's willpower and effort.

The difference with Christianity and what sets it part is an unconditional acceptance. I have come to realize that it is relational not transactional. Christianity is unique and a standout because we can look into it, and there is so much depth and wisdom behind it. Many have tried to disprove Christianity intellectually but have failed. Then the so-called atheists try to be wisecracks just can't have a firm argument that they end up sounding like some immature, dense and emotional children. I would know so because I had been in that paradigm of agnosticism myself.

I have found that truth is and will always be objective, relativists try to twist truth to their subjectivities and that is the sad truth of the worsening of world affairs today. Nowadays, people just want to go with their subjective feelings as opposed to a submission to objective truth.

It is unfortunate how much of Christ's true message has been distorted. Christianity is an objective and intelligent faith, with the resurrection of Jesus as the main cornerstone of everything. I had been skeptical and aloof all my life of such, however if Christ never existed, then wouldn't it all be just one big delusion or that he was just this crazy individual who managed to fool billions today. But if he did resurrect, then it holds heavy implications on our lives. Was Jesus speaking the truth? And there is sufficient evidence to believe that this historical event in human history did happen.

As I have stated in the past that I do not claim to be Christian. I do not throw that claim lightly, but I certainly submit to objective truth and that is not an easy task given all the pleasures and temptations of this world.
