THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 has continued to provide family food packs as augmentation support to local government units as well as to other National Government agencies, organizations, stranded individuals and displaced workers during the Covid-19 health crisis.

The DSWD 7 had released a total of 301,843 family food packs worth P136 million as of Sept. 1, 2020.

DSWD 7 Director Rebecca Geamala said the food packs, printed with the agency’s logo and markings of its expiry date, should not be sold by recipients.

She warned that selling, buying, repackaging and replacing of DSWD relief goods and their contents violate Republic Act 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

Geamala said there should be no other tags or stickers attached to the food packs.

Far-flung areas

The family food packs, said Geamala, are given by the DSWD to make sure that people, even from far-flung areas, will be served by the department through the request of local government units (LGUs) amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“The purpose of giving this to LGUs is to augment the need of the people who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Geamala.

LGUs are required to submit to the DSWD 7 the relief distribution sheet containing names of beneficiaries and acknowledgment receipts.

The new family food pack composition consists of six kilos of rice, four canned tuna flakes, four canned corned beef, two canned sardines, five sachets of coffee and five sachets of cereal drink. Each pack’s total worth is P500.
