THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to work on its road improvement projects in Negros Occidental positioned to boost tourism in the province.
The agency, on its Facebook page, said three projects in Kabankalan City totaling to about P63.3 million were already completed recently.
Another project in Sipalay City worth P38.4 million is underway, it said.
Citing reports from DPWH-Negros Occidental Third District Engineering Office Engineer Haydee Alunan, the agency said the completed tourism projects included the 1.16-kilometer access road from the national road leading to Mag-aso Falls at Barangay Oringao in Kabankalan City.
It has slope protection, metal guardrails and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings worth about P29.4 million.
A separate P9.4-million access road for Barangay Oringao's Sitio Pitgong going to Mag-aso Falls was also constructed.
It spans 560-lineal meters with slope protection, concrete shoulders, hazard markers and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
Another project completed by DPWH-Negros Occidental Third District Engineering Office in the city is the P24.5-million gravel to concrete road pavement leading to Barangay Daan Banua's Bird Watching Area.
The agency, meanwhile, reported that the ongoing project being constructed in Sipalay City includes improvement of a 315-lineal meter access road leading to the city's Sugar Beach and Langub Beach resorts.
All in all, the four road improvement projects cost about P101.7 million.
"The road improvement projects leading to Negros Occidental's tourism destinations are implemented in convergence with the Department of Tourism," it said, adding that these are positioned "to promote both tourism and socio-economic development in the province."
