EASTERN Visayas Police Director Brigadier General Bernabe Balba has launched “Singko Kontra CoviD” donation campaign for police officers who have contracted the novel coronavirus in the region.

“We are doing this voluntarily to help our comrades who are battling from this unseen enemy and through the collective efforts of the men and women of Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas, we will be able to win this battle as one,” Balba said.

He said a monthly P5 voluntary donation will be collected from both uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) regionwide and will end until December 2020.

But he encouraged police officers to donate more.

“The campaign is purposely initiated to come up with a ‘seed money’ to help address the challenges brought by this current health crisis. This campaign underscores the spirit of Bayanihan among all PNP personnel to provide immediate financial support to all police officers afflicted by Covid-19,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, PRO-Eastern Visayas spokesperson.

According to Rentuaya, the “Singko Kontra CoviD” donation drive is a response to the directive from the PNP’s Administrative Support for Covid-19 Task Force (ASCOTF).

ASCOTF was created to provide administrative support, faster logistics, response, and deployment of police officers who will serve as frontliners in several checkpoints and health facilities.

As of September 7, PRO-Eastern Visayas recorded 40 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 28 probable, and zero suspected cases. (SunStar Philippines)
