Baguio Uphill bike race rolls off September 27

THE Second Uphill Bike Race hits the road September 27 as part of Baguio City's month long charter anniversary.

Organized by the Baguio Olympics, the event is open for all cycling enthusiasts from Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay with a limited slot of 111 riders only.

Registration formally opened September 7 until the 25th at Explore Bikeshop along Legarda Road in Baguio City. Registration fee is at P500 inclusive of event short, snacks, race bib and time certification.

Prizes and medals will be given to top three finishers in the open male MTB, open female MTB, open male road bike, and open female road bike while the fourth to 10th placers will receive medals.

Medals will also be given to first to third placers in the different age bracket of the open male MTB.

The race starts at 8 a.m. from Lion's Head in Kennon Road and will end at the Mansion Lake passing Loakan Road-Kadaklan Happy Hallow-Country Club Barangay and Outlook Barangay.

Organizers said bikers should be at the starting line before 7:30 a.m. and will start with a one minute interval but well not be allowed to restart.

Support vehicle for riders will not be allowed as organizers will strictly enforce the no helmet, no race policy.

Race officials and participants will be informed to follow public health standards such as wearing of mask, maintaining physical distancing protocols, and no sharing of equipment.

Aside from the cycling competition, a golf tournament is also being lined up as part of the Baguio Day charter celebration.

Cycling and golf are among the few sports allowed by the national Inter-Agency Task Force on Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Gaudencio Gonzales, head of the Baguio City Sports Division said these are fun games aimed to boost the morale of sports enthusiasts in the city, although participation is limited while following health protocols to prevent spread of Covid-19. (Roderick Osis)
