A METRO Baguio-based local start-up in the field of robotics and automation presented solutions to help medical frontliners and residents in the summer capital during the pandemic.

Zaxxun offers technology-based alternatives as it developed solutions for food and medical industries that are also viable for hotel and office environments to minimize exposure to the novel coronavirus.

Joe Cacho, Zaxxun technical specialist, said robots have been requested at a Department of Health-accredited hospital in Metro Manila. With the challenges of transportation and manpower during quarantines, the help of robots for the city was offered.

Zaxxun in a statement said, “in our current Research and Development efforts and collaboration of the Cafe and Techno Center, we hope you find our offer robotic solutions to help and protect medical frontliners and city residents and to prevent contagion.”

Among the Zaxxun solutions developed to fight Covid-19 include a service mobile robot, comprised of a robot nurse assistant for medical use and robot server that serves to reduced human-to-human contact; a robotic arm for taking care of patients, laboratory testing and collaboration with humans.

Another technology-based solution is a drink serving station for social distancing; UV lamp disinfecting robot programmable to operate on specific times to disinfect areas where it can carry a large ultraviolet (UV) sanitizer to disinfect a 40 square meter area; the radio frequency identification (RFID) gate for less contact and contagion; a non-touch sensor to avoid touching germs and quick response (QR) codes for contactless payment.

Meanwhile, humanoid robots are available specifically for therapy and exercise.

Zaxxun said their Alpha robots can lead those undergoing quarantine and perform many pre-programmed actions such as black belt karate, dance moves, push-ups, headstands, yoga and workout routines.

Another humanoid robot is Meccanoid, which can respond to voice commands and is fully programmable allowing engagement.

The Zaxxun Techno Center is located on the fourth floor of the University Belt Building (beside SLU main gate) at 20 Bonifacio Street.
