THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has recently released a total of 13 rehabilitated wildlife in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
Dr. Anita Chua, Zamboanga del Sur provincial veterinary officer, said nine of the 13 wildlife were released in Dakayakan village in Midsalip town while the remaining four in Lizon Valley village in Pagadian City, the province’s capital.
The wildlife released by Chua and her staff in Dakayakan village, Midsalip are as follows: four Philippine serpent eagle (Spilornis holospilus); two Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela); one Pinsker’s hawk-eagle (Nisaetus pinskeri); one Yellow-headed water monitor lizard (Varanus cumingi); and, one Philippine long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis philippensis).
Freed in Lizon Valley village, Pagadian City are the following: three Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) and one Brahminy kite.
Chua said both the Dakayakan and Lizon Valley villages were assessed and identified fit as releasing sites for the rehabilitated wild animals from the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center, Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur. (SunStar Zamboanga)
