Gasataya to Dole: Prioritize cash aid for workers affected by MECQ

BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya has asked the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) to prioritize the financial assistance for the workers who were affected by the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in the country.

Gasataya, vice-chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriation, said yesterday that during their budget hearing for the 2021 National Budget last week, he asked Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to prioritize the financial assistance for the workers who were affected by the MECQ.

"Our workers need immediate assistance because of the limited business establishments operating under the MECQ like here in Bacolod City," he said.

The National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) earlier placed Bacolod City and Lanao de Sur under MECQ due to the rising number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases.

Gasataya said he is hopeful that Dole will release the financial assistance for the affected workers soon.

He said that Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac also announced during the budget briefing that there will be a fourth tranche of cash assistance for the displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) due to Dovid-19 pandemic

This is based on the Dole-KAP for OFWs program of OWWA.

Gasataya said the budget will be taken from the Bayanihan Act which was earlier signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
