LANAO del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. has tested positive for the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

In a post on the Facebook page of the Provincial Information Office of Lanao del Sur, Adiong said he was exposed to a Covid-positive person. He immediately went to Amai Pakpak Medical Center where he underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

The result came out positive around 10 p.m. Sunday, September 13. Adiong was admitted to the hospital for further treatment and isolation.

The governor added that he manifested mild symptoms but is generally well. He also advised those who came in close contact with him to subject themselves to the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

"As public servants, we are duty-bound to engage the public and assure them of our quality service," Adiong said.

Lanao del Sur is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine.

Adiong said they will continue with the "No Movement Sunday" and sanitation of public offices.

Under the "No Movement Sunday" policy, only Authorized Persons Outside Residence (Apor) are allowed on the streets on that day and all business establishments are closed except for hospitals and pharmacies.

Adiong also assured that even in isolation, he will be monitoring the day-to-day operations of the province to ensure that there will be continuity in the delivery of basic services.

"To my fellow Meranaos, please bear in mind that the threat of this virus is real. We must follow our healthcare workers, cooperate with them, and be mindful of our actions as it is in our collective interest that we pursue these stringent measures and protocols. Inshaa Allah we will overcome this pandemic," Adiong said.
