Eastern Visayas Covid-19 cases climb to 3,885

CASES of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have climbed to 3,885 in Eastern Visayas, following the 60 new cases recorded on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2020.

The Department of Health (DOH) in the region said that a total of 949 laboratory samples were tested at the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) and Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL).

EVRCTC reported 55 new cases, which include two in Tacloban City; Alang alang, Leyte (2); Babatngon, Leyte (7); Julita, Leyte (3); Tabon-tabon, Leyte (1); Calbiga, Samar (2); Calbayog City (1); Catbalogan City (10); Jiabong, Samar (2); Marabut, Samar (1); Paranas, Samar (2); Pinabacdao, Samar (9); Santa Rita, Samar (1); Catarman, Northern Samar (2); Mapanas, Northern Samar (1); Palapag, Northern Samar (6); Malitbog, Southern Leyte (2); and Tomas Oppus, Southern Leyte (1).

DWHVL, on the other hand, reported five cases, which include four in Tacloban and one in Dolores, Eastern Samar.

Meanwhile, Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado expressed elation after the 29 samples they submitted to the DOH on September 13 all tested negative from coronavirus.

The samples include 15 close contacts of Patient EV-3594, one close contact of Patient EV-3673, six frontliners, five locally stranded individuals, and two Covid-19 suspect cases.

Mercado said the 29 cases will still comply with their 14-day mandatory quarantine period with close monitoring by the city medical workers.

"We, therefore, would like to remind the public that we should not be complacent and put our guards down. We should always remain vigilant and strictly follow the mandated protocols at all times. Please avoid unnecessary journeys. Stay at home, stay safe, and protect others," Mercado said in a statement.

Maasin has four active Covid-19 cases to date.

According to DOH, Eastern Visayas has 3,179 (81.82 percent) recoveries, 668 (17.19 percent) active cases, and 38 deaths. (SunStar Philippines)
