City Health asked to purchase Covid-19 medicines

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the mayor through the City Health Office (CHO) to purchase coronavirus disease (Covid-19) medicines to be used in Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) for Bacolodnon patients.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito.

Distrito said there are several medicines being used by various hospitals in the world such Remdesivir and Tucilizumab to treat moderate and severe Covid-19 cases.

She said these medicines are widely used by many hospitals in different countries, particularly in the US, where it showed that they make recovery of patients faster and better.

Distrito noted that recently, the City of Manila purchased 2,000 vials of remdesivir, which will be used for Covid-19 patients with mild, moderate and especially those with severe symptoms.

"These medicines are also not readily available, the reason why we need to stockpile through the regional hospital or city health office if allowed to do so," Distrito said.

She said the medicines should be purchased as soon as possible considering that flights at this point are not regular and that transporting the same will take some time.

"The availability of the medicines is a part of the 3T Solution that our government imposes, the Trace, Test and Treatment. No Covid-19 patient deserves to die due to the scarcity of these medicines," she added.
