Some NMMC departments to close in case of Covid-19 surge

DEPARTMENT of Health Regional Director Adriano Suba-an on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, said some departments in Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) will be closed in case of a surge in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases.

"Nagkadaghan ang kaso nga gi-admit sa Northern Mindanao Medical Center. In fact, the NMMC, the JR Borja (JR Borja General Hospital), the City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro, the decision-makers, had a meeting and we had an agreement," Suba-an said.

"We have decided as part of the agreement that we have to close other departments as well, pag mag-surge na gyud. The scenario we are hoping not to happen. We are moving towards that direction but we have prepared for that," he added.

According to Suba-an, when the surge of Covid-19 cases happens, the first department to be closed will be the OB ward. All OB cases will be referred to the JR Borja General Hospital.

If it is not enough, the next department to be closed and where the Covid-19 cases will be admitted is the internal medicine ward.

"These are big wards in Northern Mindanao Medical Center," Suba-an said.

The NMMC, Suba-an said, is the apex hospital and the Covid-19 referral hospital in Northern Mindanao.

As of September 15, the NMMC has recorded a total of 139 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 85 of whom have recovered, 26 are admitted and 30 died.
