Lawmaker tests positive for coronavirus

GABRIELA Women’s Party-list Representative Arlene Brosas has tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Brosas confirmed the news twice on Wednesday, September 16 2020 - in a group message to House of Representatives reporters and during the hearing on the proposed 2021 budget of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) by the House committee on appropriations.

"I have experienced mild symptoms in the past few days and got myself tested immediately. I also immediately went under quarantine. As soon as the result came out today, I immediately informed the House of Representatives and all close contacts," Brosas said.

The lawmaker said she was in stable condition and was no longer experiencing any Covid-19 symptom.

“I feel fine kasi mild case naman siya. Nagpa-announce na rin ako sa House of Representatives kung kailan ako nandiyan para alam ng lahat for contact racing,” she said.

As of this writing, House secretary general Luis Montales said that the lower chamber has so far recorded 75 cases of Covid-19.

Of these cases, 10 are lawmakers, and 15 are active cases.

Representatives Johnny Pimintel and Mujiv Hataman, who earlier contracted the virus, said they have recovered.

But Senior Citizens Party-list Representative Francisco Datol and Sorsogon Second District Representative Maria Bernardita “Ditas” Ramos succumbed to the disease. (SunStar Philippines)
