2 kidnapping suspects killed in police operation

A FATHER and his son suspected of a series of kidnapping incidents involving Indian nationals were killed in a police operation in Teresa, Rizal on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2020.

Major Ronaldo Lumactod, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-kidnapping Group (AKG), identified the slain suspects as Rodel Basin and his son Romar.

Basi’s youngest son was also arrested during the operation.

Lumactod said the father and son pulled their guns when police served a search warrant for illegal firearms and ammunition in their residence in Sitio Ibabaw 2, Dulongbayan.

“As a backgrounder, the fatalities are currently involved in a series of kidnapping incidents involving Indian nationals, robbery, gun for hire in the area,” said Lumactod.

He added that the suspects were known to be “armed and dangerous” and were behind a series of murder and homicide cases in Rizal province.

Police said they recovered from the Basi residence a shotgun, a 9mm pistol and a caliber .45 pistol.

The warrant was issued by Judge Cynthia R Marino-Ricablanca of Santa Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
