Cebu City Gov’t to swab newly arrived LSIs next week

THE locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who will arrive in Cebu City next week will undergo swab testing.

This, after several LSIs who arrived in the city tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center.

Garganera said the move got the approval of Mayor Edgardo Labella.

Three LSIs, one from Manila and two from Hilongos, Leyte, recently tested positive for Covid-19 after they arrived in Cebu City. They had tested negative before they left for Cebu City.

Aside from swabbing the LSIs, Garganera said the LSIs are required to undergo the mandatory 14-day home quarantine pending the test results. The LSIs must finish the quarantine period regardless of the results, Garganera said.

Health authorities aim to prevent another wave of Covid-19 transmission in the communities.

The Cebu City Hall will shoulder the cost of swab testing, which will be led by the City Health Department.

Garganera said they will place the swabbing booths either at Pier 1 of the Cebu City Port or at the sports complex of Barangay Tinago. (PAC / KAL)
