Sungduan: 27th OPB Awards

Stand-Up for Life

ELEVEN grassroots leaders in Baguio City were recognized by the Rotary Club of Metro Baguio (RCMB) in the 27th 10 Outstanding Punong Barangays and Hall of Fame Awards.

Brookside Punong Barangay James Doligas is the lone hall of fame awardee in the ceremony held on September 16, coinciding with the 34th Charter Anniversary and induction of a new set of officers of the club.

Doligas said the recognition will serve as an inspiration in pursuing more projects the will benefit the constituents of his barangay.

The 10 Outstanding Punong Barangays in the City of Pines are Barangay Captains Josie Balusdan of Sto Tomas Proper, Tirso Baniqued of Upper General Luna, Debbie Banagui of Magsaysay Private Road, Orlando Basongit of Gabriela Silang, Arthur Carlos of Irisan Barangay, Raul Caronongan of MRR Queen of Peace,

Ariel Del Monte of DPS Compound, Manolo LLaneta of Scout Barrrio, Edward Lumasang of Cabinet Hill Teacher’s Camp, and William Regacho of Trancoville.

RCMB President Jerry Chan said the awardees, who received plaques and cash prizes, were chosen based on their accomplishments that made an impact in their respective areas.

The OPB Criterua are 1. Livelihood projects: 10 percent, 2. Anti-drug campaign: 10 percent, 3. Peace and Order: 10 percent, 4. Women Protection Programs: 5 percent, 5. Establishment of Barangay Human Rights Action Center: 5 percent, 6. Health and Sanitation: 10 percent, and 7. Environmental Protection and Climate Change: 10 percent.

The number eight criteria is Katarungang Pambarangay/Lupon tagapamayapa: 10 percent, 9. Preparation of the Annual Budget and Development Plan: 10 percent, 10. Adoption and maintenance of parks/ infrastructure: 10 percent, 11. Monitoring and Prevention of illegal structures: 5 percent, and 12. Family background and leadership traits: 5 percent

In his message, guest of honor and speaker Baguio Representative Mark Go underscored the importance of the punong barangay's role in nation-building, which is a shared responsibility.

Furthermore, he said honoring the OPBs is also a recognition of their barangay growth and development.

The triple celebration of RCMB was also attended by RI District 3790 Governor Jesus Sama.
