Escalante IATF chief's vehicle strafed

THE vehicle owned by the incident commander of the Escalante City Inter-Agency Task Force was strafed by unidentified gunmen late Wednesday night, September 16, 2020.

Police Major Gil Despi, Escalante City police chief, said Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) head Vermont Juvahib was inside his home when unidentified gunmen drove by and strafed the public official's vehicle before fleeing the crime scene.

Juvahib's vehicle was hit four times, although no one was hurt in the incident.

Despi said they believe the suspects have no intention of hurting anyone, but rather only wanted to cause fear on Juvahib due to the tight protocols he imposed in the city amid Covid-19.

The police chief added that although Juvahib did not have any enemies, investigators have yet to conclude the angle of personal grudges as the cause of the shooting.

Escalante City police are still conducting a follow-up investigation of the strafing incident.
