1 died, 1 hurt in highway mishap

ONE person died while another was injured when the cargo truck they were aboard tipped over along a highway in Zamboanga Sibugay province, local police said.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, disclosed the incident occurred around 10:10 a.m. Thursday in Lumbog village, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified the fatality as Lito Puesno, 41, the driver of the ill-fated cargo truck. Wounded was his assistant, Romel Polistico, 31.

He said investigation showed the cargo truck driven by Puesno was loaded with construction materials when it tipped over while they were traversing on a curved and descending road in Lumbog village, Imelda.

Duco said that Puesno was pinned to death while Polistico was trapped when the truck tipped over and turned upside down, throwing overboard all its cargo and blocking the highway.

He said the highway was cleared of debris when rescuers managed to rescue Polistico and rushed him to the hospital.

Duco added the remains of Puesno was taken to a local funeral parlor. (SunStar Zamboanga)
