18th Covid-19 death in Cagayan de Oro is a local case

THE 33-year-old male resident from Barangay Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City died on Friday, September 18, while he was in the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility.

The man is the 18th Covid-19 death in the city.

City Health Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said the man is the 356th case. He was exposed to the 277th case, the 30-year-old male local APOR from Barangay Macabalan.

The 33-year-old man's last day of exposure was on August 28. He was brought to the city isolation unit on August 29 and was swabbed on September 2. The result came out positive on September 5.

He was transferred to the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility on September 9 together with his mother, the 357th case, the 61-year-old female from Barangay Macabalan who was also exposed to the 277th case.

The 33-year-old man had an on and off fever. His second swab was taken on September 9 and the result came out positive on September 15.

According to Retuya, the nurse-on-duty saw the man on Friday during his morning walk. He, once again, had a fever and the nurse-on-duty reported his condition to the medical officer. They sought consultation via Facebook Messenger and the man was treated.

Prior to his death, the man's condition got better and his third swab was taken on September 18. Retuya said that at around 3:45 p.m. on the same day, the 33-year-old man fainted. A CPR was done, however, the patient showed no signs of life. He was then brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and was declared dead on arrival.

His final diagnosis was sudden cardiac death and Covid-19. His remains were buried at the Bolonsori Public Cemetery at around 7:40 p.m. on September 18, 2020.
