SAF joins hunt for Maguindanao bombers

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed Special Action Force (SAF) troopers to assist the military in conducting pursuit operations against the perpetrators of the roadside bombing that killed a soldier in Maguindanao.

PNP spokesperson Ysmael Yu also said Sunday, September 20, 2020, that PNP Chief Camilo Cascolan also immediately alerted newly installed Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Director Samuel Rodriguez to mobilize maneuver units for tactical operations against the perpetrators.

“At the same time, police post-blast investigators are sifting through debris around the seat explosion of the suspected improvised explosive device,” he said.

The units that have responded to the incident are Maguindanao Police Provincial Office, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, 404th Special Action Company and Light Armor Unit PNP-SAF.

An IED exploded Friday evening, September 18, 2020, along the provincial road near the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in the capital town of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao.

A soldier on board a troop carrier was killed and four others were wounded.

They were on their way back to the camp from an operation against Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) elements in Barangay Salman. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
