Covid-19 death toll in PNP rises to 17

ANOTHER police officer had succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 17.

Senior Sergeant Severo Gollingoy Jr., 38, was the fourth fatality in the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). He died at 7:27 p.m. on September 17 at the Pasig City Hospital.

Gollingoy was assigned at the Tactical Motorized Reaction Unit (TMRU) of the Pasig City Police Station, NCRPO Director Debold Sinas said on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Sinas said Gollingoy had a history of asthma attacks.

As of September 18, a total of 5,329 police officers have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

Of this number, 1,388 were active cases while 3,924 have recovered.

Sinas assured that the NCRPO will shoulder all the cremation and burial expenses. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
