Police ordered to verify source of P47.6-M shabu seized in Cebu

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Camilo Cascolan said on Monday, September 21, 2020, that he has ordered the Drug Enforcement Group and Bureau of Corrections to verify the source of the P47.6 million worth of illegal drugs confiscated in a drug bust in Cebu City.

The three men arrested during the dug bust in Sunday, September 20, claimed that they were merely couriers for convicted drug lord Rustico Ygot.

Ygot was arrested in May 2010 by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives and convicted of drug-related charges in 2013. He is serving his sentence in a penal farm in the Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao.

On Sunday, September 20, police arrested Rolando Ondoy Romeo, 32; Edward Ondoy Romeo, 24; and Calvin Hermoso Valdez, 42, all residents of Andres Abellana Extension, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City during a buy bust operation at around 7 a.m. at Tipolo bridge.

Seized from them were P47.6 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

Central Visayas Police Regional Office Chief Albert Ferro said the three suspects revealed that the illegal items were sourced from Ygot. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
