Meditalk: What are natural mosquito repellent alternatives? (Part 2)

(Foreword: This is the continuation of our response to Kyoto on his queries on natural mosquito repellents.)

Dear Kyoto,

Now, moving on...

2. Citronella

This is my favorite! I love the smell. But, do not use the fragrance oil if you choose this. Use only the pure essential oil. Be sure to get a high quality citronella essential oil for your skin.

3. Garlic

You have to eat tons of them - fresh...witches couldn't stand your smell - so does mosquitoes...well, they're both in the same plane anyway...blood suckers...hehe...

Of course, you can also use plants that repel mosquitoes naturally. Hey, plants are IN now. You could join in the fun. These are the plants that can help you ward off mosquitoes:

* Citronella grass

* Basil

* Mint

* Scented Gerariums

* Bee Balm

* Catnip

* Floss Flower

* Sage

* Alium

* Lavender

* Rosemary

* Marigold

However, I think the first three in the list is more common here in our locality and can be found.

One more thing, you can also try tea tree oil. Tea tree oil, or melaleuca oil, is a popular essential oil and is known for its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. But recent studies also suggest that tea tree oil may be an effective insect repellent. As a matter of fact, field testing shows that repellents containing tea tree oil are not only effective against mosquitoes, but, to bush flies, and biting midges, as well. You can find tea tree oils in health shops here in Davao City. Aromacology is one stop where you can find it.

Good luck!
