Casimero arrives in Connecticut

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight king Johnriel Casimero arrived in Uncasville, Connecticut ahead of his title defense against unbeaten Duke Micah on Sept. 27 (PH time) at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

Casimero arrived in Connecticut along with his team in Connecticut last Sept. 22 (PH time) from his training camp in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old Casimero, a native of Ormoc City, is defending his title for the first time since winning the regular belt with a third round stoppage win over Zolani Tete on Nov. 30, 2019 in Birmingham, England.

Casimero was originally scheduled to face Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue. The fight was postponed a couple of times because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The fight, later on, fizzled out and both fighters went their separate ways. Casimero faces WBO No. 11 rated Micah, while Inoue will be defending his World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight belts against Jason Moloney next month.

The 29-year-old Micah of Accra, Ghana is a former Olympian. He won both his fights in 2019, a second round technical knockout win over Luis Cruz and a unanimous decision over Janiel Rivera.

Casimero, a three-division world champion, is 29-4 with 20 knockouts, while Micah is 24-0 with 19 knockouts.

The Casimero vs. Micah fight is one of the main features of the event headlined by the title defense of Jermall Charlo against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. (EKA)
