P16-M illegal weeds destroyed

SOME P16.7-million worth of marijuana plants, seedlings and bricks were confiscated and destroyed in various marijuana eradication operations in Kalinga, Mountain Province and Benguet Province.

Joint elements of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR) conducted the eradication drive from September 20 to 21.

On September 20, joint operatives of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office (KPPO) led by provincial director Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong implemented a marijuana eradication operation that led to the discovery of six plantation sites in Barangay Bugnay in Tinglayan.

Authorities uprooted 68,800 fully grown marijuana plants cultivated in 4,000 square meters lot with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P13,960,000.

In Mountain Province, operatives from the Bontoc Municipal Police Station (BMPS), together with PDEA Bontoc, recovered 17 abandoned marijuana bricks placed in a carton box with an estimated value of P2,040,000 in Sitio Sukit, Samoki, Bontoc.

Some 4,000 grams of harvested dried marijuana stalks in a 50-square-meter lot worth P480,000 were also discovered on September 21 in Sitio Ampusa, Upper Tadiangan, in Tuba, Benguet by the Tuba Municipal Police Station (TMPS) led by Police Major Dominador De Guzman Jr. and PDEA Benguet.

In Kibungan, Benguet, anti-narcotics agent uprooted and burned on site 1,200 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants in a 240 square meters lot.

The operation, which yielded P240,000, was spearheaded by by Police Lieutenant Leonard Buya, deputy chief of Police of the Kibungan Municipal Police Station, and operatives of PDEA Benguet.

Despite the recovery and destruction of the marijuana plants, no suspected cultivators were arrested.
