DSWD elderly clients cleared of Covid-19

THE 29 occupants at the Home for the Elderly of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Zamboanga City have been cleared of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the DSWD announced.

They are among the 47 occupants at the Home for the Elderly in Talon-Talon village, Zamboanga City.

Of the 29 afflicted with Covid-19, 26 are elderly clients and the remaining three are DSWD staff, who tested positive for Covid-19 on August 29.

Those who were not afflicted with Covid-19 were immediately transferred to the facility of the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) in the same village to avoid further contamination.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD regional information officer, said those afflicted with Covid-19 have been assessed and certified as clinically recovered by the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH).

He said that all clients and staff were transferred to the old building of the RSCC.

Salvador said the transfer is to pave the way for minor renovation and upgrade as well as thorough disinfection of the Home for the Elderly center.

He said the RSCC has been restricted from accepting walk-in visitors until further notice to ensure the protection of elders housed in the center.

Salvador added strict health protocols are also in place at the RSCC center. (SunStar Zamboanga)
