Tagle tests negative for coronavirus

CARDINAL Luis Antonio Tagle is now free from Sars-CoV-2, his latest swab test result showed.

Tagle, Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, was tested again 13 days after his swab samples were first found to be positive for the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

According to CBCP News, the Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) in Rome disclosed that Tagle has recovered despite being asymptomatic.

“God wants him to continue serving in the Vatican’s office for the Missions, to bring God’s Good News of love, joy, peace, justice, forgiveness, and reconciliation — all of which the world needs in a special way these days,” PCF rector Fr. Gregory Gaston said as quoted by the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

“We wish him all the best in his short visit to the Philippines, to rest a bit, and be with his family back home," he added.

Tagle tested positive for the virus after arriving in Manila from Rome on September 10, 2020.

He immediately went into isolation.

He was the first Roman curia dicastery head to have contracted the dreaded virus. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
