PONTEVEDRA Mayor Jose Maria Alonso confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) based on the result released Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Alonso said he was swabbed Wednesday and is asymptomatic.

He said he decided to undergo a swab test, along with other members of his family, drivers and close in security, after his wife tested positive on Wednesday.

His wife experienced a fever on Sunday and immediately submitted herself for a swab test.

"All the members of my family in the household were all tested negative except me and my wife," Alonso said.

He said that he has put on lockdown the Mayor's Office, Budget Office and Treasurer's Office since Thursday.

"We are now conducting contact tracing, and some employees will also undergo swab tests," the mayor said.

Board Member Jose Benito Alonso (4th District), twin brother of the mayor said, Mayor Alonso isolated himself at the family farm in Hda. Carmenchica, also in the town, after his wife tested positive.

"He has been actively doing daily exercises at the farm and doing work from home," Board Member Alonso said.

He said he will also submit himself for a swab test because he was with his twin brother on Sunday.

"We are doing fine with no symptoms at all this time. I am also doing a regular exercise to stay fit and healthy," Board Member Alonso said.
