AT LEAST 15 local designers in Angeles City, Pampanga have pledged to assist the City Government’s face mask livelihood program.

The local designers held a meeting with Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr.’s Chief Adviser and Tactician IC Calaguas on September 25.

Calaguas said the City Government called out the local designers to create designs and patterns for the face mask livelihood program.

“Humingi po tayo ng tulong sa ating mga local designers upang pangunahan nila ang nasabing facemask livelihood program at mabigyan nila ng gabay ang mga mananahing kasama sa project na ito. At nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila dahil agad naman silang tumugon,” Calaguas said.

Some of the local designers who joined the program were Marlon Tuazon, Jhune Angeles, Cholo Ayuyao, Rosette Ramos-Biag, Jojo Macapinlac, Frederick Policarpio, Manny Ocampo, Philip Torres, Mich Viray, Danica Zita, Stephen Victoriano, Joey Feliciano, Rop Syquia, Rich Sabinian and Bhry Adefuin.

To help some residents recover financially and protect the environment, Lazatin launched the face mask livelihood program, with the main objective to promote reusable alternatives for facemasks and personal protective equipment (PPE) while providing sustainable livelihood for marginalized sectors including solo parents, persons with disability (PWDs), stay-at-home parents and women’s groups.

Under the said program, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel said the City Government will hire home-based "mananahi" (sewers) to produce reusable face masks and PPE.

The PPE will be donated to frontline workers of Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), City Health Office (CHO) and Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), while the face masks will be given for free to the poorest of the poor residents.

“Required na mag-produce ng 250 facemasks per week, and 20 PPEs per month ang isang mananahi. Ibibigay sa mga frontline workers natin sa ACDRRMO, CHO at RLMMC ang mga nagawang PPE,” Calaguas said.

Also present during the meeting were Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office Officer-in-Charge Irish Bonus-Llego, Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles, Angeles City Tourism Officer Anneleen Sugui and Tourism Consultant Cecille Flores.
