Casimero, Micah in champ bout

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight king Johnriel Casimero is out to prove that he’s one of the best bantamweights of the world as he takes on unbeaten Ghanaian challenger Duke Micah in one of the world championship bouts featured in “Charlomania” on Sept. 27 (PH time) at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Casimero will vent his anger on his botched fight with Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue on Micah, who he plans to knock out.

Casimero was supposed to unify his belt with Inoue’s World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) belts in April. However, the fight was moved and then later cancelled for good.

The 31-year-old Casimero hopes that an impressive win will finally earn him his super fight with Inoue, who’s taking on Jason Moloney on Oct. 31, 2020 in Las Vegas.

Casimero tipped the scales at 117.8 pounds, while Micah weighed-in a little bit lighter at 117.2 pounds.

Casimero is coming off a career-defining victory over South African star Zolani Tete last Nov. 30, 2019 in Birmingham, England. He destroyed Tete in just three rounds, becoming the sole bantamweight champion of the WBO.

Micah, in the meantime, is looking to score a huge upset over one of the top guns in the bantamweight division.

Even though Micah hasn’t won a major belt in his eight-year pro boxing career, he has all the tools of becoming a world champion. Micah has an extensive amateur background, wherein he competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics. He’s also on the rise after beating a credible opponent in former world title contender Janiel Rivera by unanimous decision in his last fight on Dec. 7, 2019.

Casimero, a three-division world champion, is 29-4 with 20 knockouts, while Micah is 24-0 with 19 knockouts.

“Charlomania” features the Charlo twins in two boxing shows on the same night in the same event. Jermell Charlo faces Jeison Rosario of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and IBF super welterweight belts, while Jermall Charlo headlines the other main event in a WBC middleweight title defense against Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
