Mandaue bids out P112M contract for laptops, devices

MANDAUE City Government has awarded the contract for the purchase of 590 laptops and 5,000 tablets worth P112 million to support the city's new normal education efforts.

This was bid out last on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Atty. John Eddu Ibañez, the executive secretary of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, said that as the IT equipment has been bid out the Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue Division will now create criteria on who is qualified to avail of the gadgets.

Ibañez believes that all public schools teachers will receive a laptop to be used to their online distance learning since the DepEd-Mandaue are the ones who provided the purchase request to be budgeted from the Special Education Fund.

As for the students, DepEd-Mandaue still has to formulate criteria for the students enrolled in any public elementary and high school could apply.

The specs of tablets are two-in-one, it is a tablet attached with a keyboard which could also be used as a laptop.

The learning applications and modules are already downloaded to the tablets and any application not related to educational use cannot be installed on the tablet.

Ibañez clarified that these gadgets are given in trust to the beneficiary meaning the beneficiary only borrows the gadget thus, it could not be sold or pawned.

Ibañez said that they still have 15 days on the notice to proceed but now, that it has been bid out, the process will be smooth-sailing and the gadgets will possibly arrive before Oct. 5, the opening of classes.(KFD)
