5 cops relieved over violent arrest of woman in Cavite

THE municipal police chief of Kawit, Cavite and four of his men were relieved from their post over their involvement in the violent arrest of an alleged drug suspect.

Calabarzon Police Director Vicente Danao Jr. said Major Gabriel Unay said an investigation will be conducted.

"We will not tolerate this action of our police which is a violation of our police operational procedure. All personnel involved in the operation will be administratively relieved pending investigation, to include the chief of police, for failure to supervise his men under the doctrine of command responsibility," Danao said.

Danao was referring to the arrest of Dana Jamon, whose apprehension was caught on surveillance camera. A video of the arrest was posted on social media.

Based on the video, at least four armed men in civilian clothes entered Jamon’s house in Barangay Tabon 2 and arrested her.

Jamon was dragged by her hair, causing panic among her minor children.

Danao said what the police did was unacceptable.

“Hindi ako papayag sa mga maling gawain ng mga miyembro ng ating kapulisan. I have been very strict with my program on Litis, or Litisin Tiwalag at Iskalawag na Pulis," he said. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
