Kenny Ladaga: Highlighting clients in design

IF THERE is one thing that would aptly describe Kenny Ladaga, it is his commitment to highlight his clients in every design he makes.

The Davao-based fashion designer, who specializes in wedding gowns and suits, gives emphasis on the clients' personality whenever he is asked to design something for them.

"In a business perspective, I always highlight the personality of my customers in my designs. What you wear speaks more of yourself or your personality, that's why for me, it is really important to know the personality of the client before designing," he said.

Kenny further shared that aside from considering the clients' personality, he also sees nature as the inspiration of his designs. He makes sure that the florals, vines, and colors are perfectly blended in each of his designs.

"I've always been fascinated with nature, especially with flowers, that's why signature wise, most of my designs are incorporated with floral laces, appliques, prints and beadworks," he said.

Kenny, who has been in the industry for more than a decade, shared that he never sacrifices quality. It has been his mantra to put quality first in everything that he does. And this is the reason why he is grateful for his team.

"For me, I think that my greatest asset as a designer is my team, my workforce. I've been surrounded by a talented and hardworking team -- turning my visions into a masterpiece," he said.

Meanwhile, when it comes to designs, Kenny always puts no boundaries to his creativity, whether designing a collection for a fashion show or making his signature pieces.

"I always try to connect it to myself, to my personality. But, when I design to a specific customer/s (MTO or made-to-own), I always put what they want first before I add my signature designs. Personally, somehow as a designer, that's what made me standout, being able to connect with my customers through art -- my design," he gladly shared.

His being responsive to clients gave birth to his face masks line.

"In response to the new normal, my team and I decided to create masks having the tag line 'Protect yourself in style,' masks that are fashionable and still comply with the health needs of the users," he said, adding that his new line is "doing quite well" and they are even catering to international orders.

Kenny's creativity and responsiveness does not end there. He is set to launch his ready-to-wear (RTW) line.

To his fellow designers, Kenny's message for them is all about humility, respect and gratitude.

"I could consider this as an open letter to everyone in the industry, whether you are a young designer or a veteran, always put your feet on the ground. Some find it way too easy to get in, and some have to climb over a mountain. In the end, if you were able to get in, always have an open mind and be respectful towards everybody. All artists have their own time to shine, in times that you are still in the waiting, just focus on your craft, and always support your fellow artists to whatever journey they're taking, one day, you'll be in that position, together with their support, respect, and gratitude towards your craft and talent," Kenny concluded.

Kudos, Ken, and keep on shining!
