CebuDoc opens new facilities

THE CebuDoc Group of Hospitals launched two new centers, the Center for Digestive Endoscopy and Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, to assure non-coronavirus patients that they are well-protected during treatment amid the pandemic.

The two centers are part of the hospital’s Wellness Complex within the Medical Arts Building 2, which also houses the CebuDoc Dental Institute and Center for Aesthetics and Laser.

“Our goal is to introduce to the public that healthcare is also about preserving our well-being. Thus, we introduced the Wellness Complex in 2018 intending to holistically provide health and wellness programs accessible to everybody,” Dr. Potenciano S.D Larrazabal III, CebuDoc Group president and chairman of the board said.

He said the complex will also feature soon a laboratory, pharmacy and outpatient facilities to make it a one-stop shop for health and wellness.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which caters to both adults and pediatrics, is managed by top-of-their-field specialists and sub-specialists, each with a specific area of expertise.

“To serve to our Cebuano cancer patients, we ensure a proper or the utmost care that we can offer through the proper handling and safe administration of chemotherapy,” Dr. Noemi Alsay-Uy, head of the facility’s Adults section, said.

Services include systemic treatment with chemotherapy, biological therapy and immunotherapy, intrathecal cytotoxic chemotherapy, bone marrow aspiration and/or biopsy, blood transfusion and phlebotomy.

“The new location is strategically located outside the main hospital to separate immunocompromised patients from other patients. We are taking more active measures to protect our patients, as well as our healthcare workers, to ensure the continuity of providing quality services to our patients especially during this unfortunate time of the pandemic,” she said.

The doctors have also organized support groups to help patients cope physically and emotionally with the treatment.

“We assure our patients that we will provide them the quality care, compassion, respect, comprehensive care, and innovative treatment options. It will help put their mind at ease during their journey,” Dr. Jose Antonio S. Quitevis, section head of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, said.

The Center for Digestive Endoscopy, meanwhile, features five procedure rooms and five recovery rooms equipped with advanced endoscopy technology.

It also provides negative pressure air flow, hepa filters, and UV light sterilizers.

“We provide the kind of care that ensures our patients’ safety, comfort, and well-being, giving them peace of mind. With the ongoing pandemic, we have ample space for donning and doffing that ensures the safety of our patients and healthcare workers,” Dr. Leilanie Salgado, center director, said.

Its services include esophagogastroduodenoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), colonoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), flexible and rigid proctosigmoidoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), esophageal dilatation and stenting, variceal band ligation, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube insertion, change of gastrostomy tube, bioenteric intragastric balloon (BIB) insertion and removal, lap band adjustment with fluoroscopic guidance and polypectomy.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Center for Digestive Endoscopy is open from Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the fifth floor of CebuDoc’s Medical Arts Building 2. (JOB)
