National Artist Resil Mojares to deliver online lecture on Battle of Mactan

THE Cebuano Studies Center (CSC) of University of San Carlos will hold its second lecture of the Vicente Sotto Lecture Series with National Artist for Literature Dr. Resil Mojares on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.

Mojares’ lecture will start at 2 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. on Zoom. The slots for the lecture are limited.

His lecture is entitled, “What Happened in the Battle of Mactan?”

Mojares is a professor emeritus for History and Literature at USC and is also the co-founder and former director of the CSC, the country’s premier research facility on all aspects of Cebuano culture, society, and art based in USC’s Learning Resource Center.

In 2018, Mojares was conferred the title of National Artist for Literature, the country’s highest recognition for the arts, for his role in shaping the development of Philippine literature.

A multi-awarded writer, historian and critic, Mojares’ body of work includes “Origins and Rise of the Filipino Novel,” “Waiting for Mariang Makiling” and literary portraits of eminent figures in Philippine society and politics, including Pedro Paterno, Vicente Sotto and Serging Osmeña, among others.
