Northern Samar town cops relieved over death of 2 fellow officers

ALL involved policemen in San Isidro, Northern Samar were relieved and reassigned to other units following the death of two fellow officers during an anti-illegal logging operation on September 26, 2020.

“I assure the public of an extensive and credible investigation on the matter. Rest assured that we will do our best to get to the truth,” said Brigadier General Ronaldo De Jesus, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas.

De Jesus said they already created a regional fact-finding committee together with the investigating team from Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) to conduct an in-depth and thorough investigation on the incident.

“The whole PRO-Eastern Visayas is extending its deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families. This PRO is now facilitating the financial assistance for the burial services of the slain police officers,” added the regional police command in a statement.

The fallen police officers were Patrolman Jessie Golondrina and Patrolman Fernando S Velarde Jr., both from the Second Maneuver Platoon, 803rd Regional Mobile Force Battalion.

They were killed in an armed confrontation with alleged illegal loggers in Barangay Buenavista, San Isidro town.
