Baguio regulates social gatherings

BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong issued Tuesday, September 29, an executive order that regulates social gatherings from September 30 to October 14.

In his order, Magalong said private social gatherings in close quarters or indoor venues shall be temporarily regulated, including social gatherings to celebrate or commemorate personal milestones such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, gatherings to mourn departed loved ones, other work-related gatherings held in hotels, conference halls, convention venue and other similar premises.

"Provided the venue is inspected prior to the event by personnel of the City Health Services Office and approval is secured from the City Mayors Office... social events or gatherings held at home shall be allowed provided prior notice is given to barangay officials and the basic health protocols are observed at all times," the mayor said.

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), barangay health officials, the City Health Services Office, Permits and Licensing Division, Public Order and Safety Division and the Special Division Office are empowered to ensure that the implementation of this order is carried out with outmost consideration for the order, safety and security of all persons involved.

The Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTS) may be called upon in the monitoring compliance with health standards as prescribed herein and in succeeding officials advisories.

BCPO Director Allen Rey Co said the city is relying on goodwill of residents to follow protocol and health standards but warned that violators will face arrest and charges if found liable of breeches, which compromise health protocols.

Co said violations of Republic Act 11332, otherwise known as Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of the Public Health Concern Act, will be charged.

The order said in all cases, "our standard and basic health protocols shall be observed."

Magalong also said: "It is highly encouraged attendees of these events be limited to immediate family members who are not immunocompromised or who do not have underlying health conditions."
