Covid-19 cases in Davao Region cross 3,000 mark

TOTAL coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Davao Region breached the 3,000 mark in the last two days of September.

On September 29, a total of 67 cases were added to the Covid-19 numbers of the region. Fifty-five of these were from Davao City, five from Davao del Sur, three from Davao de Oro, three from Davao Oriental, and one from Davao Occidental.

On September 30, an additional of 48 new Covid-19 cases were added to the total tally of the region.

According to the daily Covid-19 report of the Department of Health (DOH) in Davao Region, 38 of the new cases are from Davao City, six from Davao del Norte, three for Davao Oriental, and one from Davao Occidental.

Bulk of the new Covid-19 cases are local cases with 40 while three are locally stranded individuals and five are still for verification.

Davao Region breaching the 3,000 mark happened within a month since it breached the 2,000 mark on August 27, 2020.

DOH-Davao has yet to issue an official statement on the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in Davao Region.

As of September 30, 2020, Davao City remains to have the most number of Covid-19 cases in the region with 1,953, followed by Davao del Norte with 357, Davao Oriental with 270, Davao de Oro with 230, Davao del Sur with 192, and Davao Occidental with 74.

In a statement, acting city mayor Sebastian Duterte said the recent increase in Covid-19 cases is "proof that the virus is still very present in our communities."

"I am reminding everyone to strictly follow the health protocols to prevent further transmission of the virus. I appeal to all of you to stay home and go out only for work, emergency, and/or essential activities," he said.

Duterte also advised the public to take extra precaution when going to malls, grocery stores, and public markets.

"Gatherings are strongly discouraged at this time and for the upcoming All Souls' Day," he said, adding that the public could visit their departed loved ones before October 29 and after November 4.

Meanwhile, DOH-Davao also reported 31 new recoveries on September 30, bringing the total recoveries in Davao Region to 2,433. Of the new recoveries, 23 are from Davao City, five from Davao del Sur, two from Davao Oriental, and one from Davao de Oro.

Two new deaths were reported on the same day, bringing the total Covid-related deaths in the region to 94. One of the new deaths was from Davao City and the other is from Davao del Sur.

Active cases in the region increased to 549 as of September 30. Of this number, 345 are asymptomatic, 177 are mild cases, and 27 are severe cases. There are currently no critical cases in the region.

However, it can be noted that mild cases on September 30, 2020 increased to 177 from 163 on September 29.

Davao City continues to have the highest number of active Covid-19 cases in Davao Region with 323.

The three accredited Covid-19 testing laboratories in the region tested a total of 1,245 individuals on September 30, 2020. Of this number, 81 or seven percent tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2. A total of 48 persons were from Davao Region while the other 33 were from other regions.
