DOT rolls out contactless accreditation system

TOURISM establishments can now obtain their accreditation online following the upgrade of the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) online accreditation system.

DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the new system promised to speed up the facilitation of accreditation requests from local tourism establishments.

“The new online accreditation system is DOT’s response to delivering efficient, paperless transactions and hazard-free government service under the new normal,” she said during the virtual launch.

The online portal can be accessed via https://accreditation.tourism.gov.ph/login.

“It fulfills President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for the streamlining and automation of services in the Ease of Doing Business Act signed in 2018, as well as the provisions in the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act which directs government offices to expedite delivery of services in view of Covid-19,” she said.

The new system also complied with the Anti-Red Tape Authority’s policies by reducing the number of documentary requirements, prescribed processing time and acceptance of applications through electronic or online submissions, Puyat said.

“It is also DOT’s own advocacy to promote e-commerce and to shift to contactless transactions as recommended protocols under the new normal. The digitalization of our accreditation system proves timely as we roll out new health and safety guidelines for primary and secondary enterprises,” she said.

By introducing the revamped system, Puyat hopes it will ease the burden of local businesses because they need not go to regional offices to submit their documents.

“This is also for our micro, small and medium enterprises who collectively form the backbone of the tourism industry,” she said.

In Central Visayas, the DOT 7 has accredited 1,198 tourism establishments. (JOB)
