The Beauty Enthusiast

MANY have been fans of the botanical essences for years, but the popularity of essential oils has increased perhaps due to additional time being spent at home. We have become more conscious of creating a more relaxing and comfortable environment, and seeking comfort from anything that can help with the uncertainties we are still going through.

Essential oils have been used for millennia for holistic healing. Not only are certain oils found to have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, but aromatherapy has been proven effective for physiological health. Aside from being used aromatically, essential oils have benefits when applied topically or mixed with food or drinks.

Try diffusing a single oil or creating your own signature blend to breathe new life in a room. Add a couple of drops of peppermint to body lotion for a cooling rub on a hot day or after a workout, or diffuse it while working at home to boost concentration. Two to three drops of ylang-ylang or orange oil mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut or olive, will make a nourishing mask for your hair. Most of us are familiar with tea tree—this antibacterial oil can be used on acne or itchy skin, in a warm soak for fresher feet, and mixed with other ingredients to make hand sanitizer or non-toxic surface cleaner.

Just make sure to do your research ahead for which oils can be applied directly to the skin or ingested, and ensure that the oils are from a reputable source. Young Living essential oils, for example, provide clear guidance on how to use their oils, which are purely extracted from botanicals and do not have synthetics or additives mixed in them.
