Missing teenager found dead in Magsungay River

THE body of the missing teenager, who was swept away by flash floods in a river off Barangay Vista Alegre on Tuesday, September 29, was found in Magsungay River, Barangay 35, Bacolod City Thursday morning.

The fatality was identified as Kent Castillo, 19, of Barangay Vista Alegre.

Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head for Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said the dead body of the victim was found by residents in Magsungay River around 5 a.m.

He said Castillo was reported missing on Tuesday after he was swept away by flash floods in a river in Barangay Vista Alegre.

Vargas added they found out that on Tuesday afternoon, Castillo along with his three other friends was fishing in a river in Barangay Vista Alegre when a strong current of water occurred.

Castillo’s three companions managed to survive, but Castillo was swept away by floodwaters.

On Wednesday, the body of the 59-year-old man, who was also swept away by flash floods in a river in Barangay Mansilingan on Tuesday, was found along the coastline of Calong-Calong, Zone 4, Barangay Singcang-Airport.

On Tuesday, several residents in Barangays Singcang-Airport and Taculing have been evacuated and temporarily housed in barangay gymnasiums after water rose because of the flash floods from the mountains.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia already directed the Department of Social Services and Development to survey and assess all the areas in the city affected by flash floods on Tuesday.
